Novel Study Focus Assignment - My Reaction
By Rory Christopher
The name of this novel is Divine Madness, by Robert Muchamore. The plot outline for the story is, James Adams (the main character) is trying to infiltrate a secret association (The Survivors), connected to Help Earth (another secret organization, but is a bad organization, that is trying to destroy the world). The organization Help Earth, is a terrorist group that thinks, killing people/resources most people need to survive, will help the world, even if the people are always working full-time, or the resources are used every day. James is hoping, that he can find out whether or not Help Earth is linked to the Survivors. This is my reaction to the book, most of the book is very well-written. Some of the features of the book, that I did like, were the fact that there is a variety of different characters, the book is detailed in most parts, especially the mission briefings. The plot twists are amazing, you think you know what is going to happen then, BANG plot totally changes and you were totally wrong about what was going to happen. Some of the things, I did not like about the book was, the language is not very complex, and the transitions between different scenes are very random and all-over the place. Although the novel did not help me in any aspect of life, it was a well written book, and the whole story is very well written. There was no main theme, or moral, which may have taught me something. But, also, none of the characters ever really go in to detail about anything they are doing, or how to fix or make anything. As the above statement says, I did not learn anything from the novel, as no one in the book teaches any one anything first-hand, and the book does not have a main theme, or moral. Something I found interesting in the novel, was the plot twists. They were so complex, and distorted the story so much that, it was almost impossible to figure out what was going to happen next. But I would say it "spices up" the story furthermore. The most bizarre thing I noticed in the novel was, the sudden change between different people, and different scenes. The changes just seemed to change at will, like there was no rhyme or reason for them to change. After seeing the main character for 5 pages, then a sudden change to a sub character for half a page was quite strange. I must say that, basically the whole book was unbelievable, especially the parts of the book where, after the main character being seen by 6 different people, all of a sudden he is able to disappear, to me, with the technology we had back between 2006-2007, I think the United States would have found the secret campus, several years before 2007. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. The reason being because unless the person is very smart, and does not like reading books meant for teens to young adults, the book is quite amusing, and not only about serious issues. The novel is very easy to follow, the speech is not too hard to comprehend, and the storyline is very interesting. But the book is also not too kiddy-like for a older person to like reading. I will definitely read more novels by Robert Muchamore, especially since this novel is smack in the middle of a series of books. This book also greatly appeals to my thirst for action, suspense, crime, and fighting. One of the immediate, and easiest genres to find, is the action/fighting genre, because the initial 5 pages are about the main character, and his training session in the Dojo on the campus. Thanks for reading. Will you read any more novels by this author?
Yes, I will read more of the novels by Robert Muchamore. The book appeals to my thrill for, action, suspense, and sci-fi. Some of these are detail's are quite obvious, such as during the very beginning of the book, where James has to battle many people just to get over the initial problem. This is obviously, action/fighting.
